Roundtable of Sustainable Urban Environment

Objective:

• An intellectual forum to provide guidance, input, and recommendation for promoting sustainable development in the province.
• To debate sectoral issues and identifying interventions required for sustainable development of urban and rural environment
• To provide a forum for interface between public sector and civil society to deliberate and develop consensus on sector issues

Major Achievements:

• Collaboration and linkages developed between academia and Government Sector on various sector issues
• Environment protection and conservation concepts have been incorporated in working of public sector organizations and project
• Involvement of private and electronic / print media for highlighting the environmental problems in built-up area.

Constraints:

Some of the constraints of the Roundtable are:

• Sizable participation with respect concerned public sector organizations.
• Institutional constraints to address the large sector problems (Technical expertise, Lack of human resources etc)
• Financial constraints for implementation of the decisions / recommendations of Roundtable
• Financial Constraints of RT secretariat to engage resource persons outside Peshawar
  

Way-ahead:

• To provide a link of sectoral RT with policy formulation at Provincial level
• To identify the innovative funding schemes / Mechanism for green development within the Province.
