The Sarhad Provincial Conservation
Strategy aims to secure the economic, social and ecological
well-being of the people of the NWFP through the conservation
and sustainable development of the province’s natural
resources.
Its specific objectives are:
- Treatment of the fundamental social
problems that are the underlying cause of environmental degradation;
- Conservation, rehabilitation,
and sustainable development of natural resources such as forests,
water, soil and wildlife;
- Protect ion of the living environment
from air, water and soil pollution;
- Development of high-quality environmental
protection mechanisms including appropriate legislation, development
planning mechanisms, environmental quality standards, and participatory
and regulatory institutional arrangements;
- Improvement of the institutional
and financial capacity of the NWFP Government to achieve sustainable
development of the province’s natural resources;
- Protection and conservation of
the cultural heritage of the NWFP;
- Improvement of community and individual
involvement in decision making about natural resources and the
environment; and
- Raising of public awareness and
understanding of conservation and sustainable development.
